We headed north on the back roads of Alabama and in our quest to stay off the interstate we ended up curving through Georgia and then ended up in Fort Payne, Alabama. On the way, we stopped for a picnic lunch at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park. We did a quick tour of the visitor center Cherokee Indian display and drove the scenic auto tour. We passed by Little River Canyon and then on to our campsite at DeSoto State Park. Since it had rained,we saved our hike to early morning but the trails were rocky and muddy so we visited the Nature Center and gazed up at the zip line.
