Adolph Thomae County Park, Rio Honde, near Brownsville, Texas

We got an early start planning on eating breakfast in Corpus Christi but continued on further and found an authentic taqueria for a Mexican omelet with cactus, spinach, and mushrooms served with beans and flour tortillas. The park was located along the Arroyo Colorado River with waterfront sites and ours across and in the Cactus flats. We took a long walk down to the boat ramp in the evening and listened and saw the hawks dive bomb in the brush.

We slept in and then found another authentic Mexican restaurant for breakfast before driving to Resaca De La Palm State Park and World Birding Center. The visitor center was closed on Monday but we walked about five miles on the assorted trails listening out for birds using the Merlin app on our phone. We headed into Brownsville to meet up with our cruising friend Larry for lunch. We then drove out to South Padre Island and visited the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center.
