Cagle Recreation Area in Sam Houston National Forest, New Waverly, Texas

We were up at daylight at 7 am when the only breakfast place in Arnaudville opened. We were the only ones for a great breakfast sandwich and wonderful Community Club coffee. The lunch menu looked awesome and we were invited to stop on our way back when the cook said he would have crawfish for lunch. We stayed on the back roads through Louisiana into Texas when the rain started. The rain stopped before we got to the campsite. There was standing water on the trails as we walked to the dock and the short loop. We heard plenty of birds as we hiked between the two campsite loops and then along the lakeside trail. We bought a new Ninja air fryer since we left ours at home and tried out sweet potato fries which were tasty. We made a pot of pork black bean chili in the Instant Pot and enjoyed a cozy evening.
