We headed north from Carlsbad to Artesia for breakfast and then decided the route from there was headed through the mountains with snow so we retraced our way back and headed west to El Paso. It was miles of the same desert and then we passed through Guadalupe Mountains National Park and the landscape changed. Our route bypassed most of El Paso so we continued on to Rio Grande Winery with the river on one side and the Oregon Mountains on the other. The wine tasting of 4 dry reds was wonderful and we enjoyed one of their large pretzels. We bought a bottle and then moved out to the patio with the heater and enjoyed the charcuterie board until sunset. We dashed out to see the sunset over the vineyard and then dashed around the other side of the tasting room to see it reflect off the mountains. We pulled up lounge chairs to the fire pit and enjoyed the warmth and company of other harvest host campers. There were eight rigs spaced out in their huge parking lot for the night. We headed into Las Cruces for a great burrito and egg quesadilla breakfast with green chili sauce.
