Colona, Illinois to Luverne, Minnesota

When we saw the weather prediction for 95 degrees at 5 pm today in Minnesota, we changed our plans to camp at Blue Mound State Park so we would have shade and electricity to run the air conditioner. We headed out at daybreak for a long drive through the great plains. Blue Mound Park was a beautiful setting with bison grazing on the grasslands and hiking trails all around. We drove to the highest point and parked and hiked to the quartz mine and then back the blue mound trail that was also a bike path that went all the way to downtown Luverne. We had a thunderstorm warning but the black clouds and thunder and lightning went past us as we headed to Take 16 Brewery in Luverne where we had intended to stay the night at the Harvest Host location. We sampled a flight of brews and enjoyed a pizza followed by soft ice cream at the local drive-in.
