Gooseberry Falls Park, Gooseberry Falls Minnesota

We left Sandstone with a quick trip up the interstate to Duluth, Minnesota on Lake Superior. We found a bakery cafe for breakfast right in Dewitt-Seitz Marketplace. A quick walk to the Maritime Visitors Center with the history of the Corp of Engineers and Lake Superior.  We took the lake walk past Fitger's Brewery and to Leif Erikson Park and the Rose Garden. We got stopped on our return to the car to see the Aerial Lift Bridge open for a huge ship.  We set up camp on the North Shore of Lake Superior at Gooseberry Falls Park. We hiked to the lake front before sundown and marveled at the stonework from the Civilian Conservation Corps from the 1930's. The next morning we took off to hike to the five falls. We stopped at the Visitor Center on our return and that's when we met up with the crowds of tourists. Along our drive along the lake front we stopped at Split Rocks Lighthouse State Park but it was too crowded for our liking to pay for the tour. We stopped at North Shore Winery for a tasting.
