Galena was an impressive restored town nestled behind the levee. All the shops in the historic district made for great window shopping with such a variety of wares as well as restaurants and hotels. After exploring the town of Galena and walking along the levee, we continued our drive along the Great River Road. Our campground was across the Mississippi River from Dubuque, Iowa at Grant River Recreation Area near Potosi, Wisconsin. Dubuque was celebrating the holiday on July third and we planned to head back into town when we passed the Potosi Brewery down the road from the campground and decided that sounded like a better idea for the evening. It was unbearably hot when we set up without any shade so we put up the tab visor. The gnats were swarming and a wind gust came up and collapsed the tab visor so that ran us inside cutie for a nap. After our nap, we headed back to the brewery in its historic buildings along with a winery, furniture store and Veterans saloon. The brewery had a great little museum and gift shop of memorabilia and history of the operation. We ordered a flight of six beer along with a sampler appetizer of Wisconsin cheeses, cheese curds and salami. We took most of that back with us and ordered dinner of pork tacos and a barbequed briskette sandwich. That made for an enjoyable evening without the holiday crowds.
